Post Game Updates
Technically, the Pirates were going for a 4 game sweep against the New York Mets today (make up game). It was back and forth all day, and the Pirates lost a heartbreaker. After leading 5-0 after 3 innings, the Bucs allowed the Mets back into the game, and the Mets led 8-5 after 6. Down 8-6 in the bottom of the ninth, Freddy Sanchez singled and Adam LaRoche homered to the game as the PNC Park crowd exploded. With 2 outs in the bottom of the ninth, Robinzon Diaz and Ramon Vazquez singled, but Brandon Moss couldn’t knock in the game winner.

Matt Capps entered in the top of the 10th, and allowed a 2-out hit-by-pitch, stolen base, and single to give up the lead.

The Pirates’ top of the order couldn’t produce anything in the bottom of the 10th.

Today was the first time we’ve seen Jeff Salazar in a Pirates’ uniform. He was recalled after the Morgan/Hinske trades. He entered as a pinch-hitter in the bottom of the 6th, and he flew out to right.

The Pirates lost their 5th game in a row tonight, and their second in a row by the score of 5-4.

Ian Snell only made it 2.2 innings. He gave up 4 runs on 4 hits.

The Pirate bats were kept relatively silent until the bottom of the 9th. Down 5-0, the Pirates scored 4 runs.

After getting a series win against the Tigers, interleague play continues, and the Pirates travel to Minnesota for a 3 game set.

Tonight’s game in the Metrodome didn’t go so well. Paul Maholm was all over the place. He allowed 14 hits and 8 runs in 5 innings.

Pirate hitters managed 11 hits, but they could only get 2 runs across.

Post Game Update

The Pirates dropped their second 1-run game in a row to the Atlanta Braves. Ross Ohlendorf pitched well, but it wasn’t enough for the Pirates to get the W.

The Pirates scored early in the 1st inning when speedy Nyjer Morgan singled. Delwyn Young hit him over to 3rd, and Morgan scored on an Adam LaRoche groundout.

The Braves put some singles together in the bottom of the 3rd to score Nate McLouth and tie the game at 1.

Delwyn Young singled in the 4th, Eric Hinske walked, and Robinzon Diaz doubled to send them both home. 3-1 Bucs!

The lead lasted until the bottom of the 7th when Jesse Chavez gave up a 2 run single to Yunel Escobar.

This was the 2nd tough loss in a row for the Bucs.

Postgame Update:
No need for brooms. This game was all about missed opportunities for the Pirates. In the 1st, 3rd, and 5th innings, Nyjer Morgan and Freddy Sanchez both got on base (1st and 3rd with no outs, 5th with 1 out), and Nate McLouth couldn’t help more than a walk in the 5th, and those on-base efforts led to no runs. In the 4th inning, the Pirates got four consecutive hits, but they led to just one run because of a baserunning error by Robinzon Diaz.

The Pirates outhit the Cardinals 12-10, but the Bucs left 10 men on base. Final score: Cardinals 5 – Pirates 1.
