But…. that’s not what Pirate fans will be talking about tonight.
Management has made one of those “tough decisions” that they said they’d have to make. Nate McLouth has been traded to the Atlanta Braves. In return, the Pirates pick up 3 prospects, 2 of which may not be far from the Major Leagues. Charlie Morton is a RHP who has been a leader in the International League this season. Gorkys Hernandez is an OF who is another potential leadoff-type guy. Hernandez has been playing well in AA this season. Jeff Locke is a LHP that I haven’t heard much about. Andrew McCutchen will make his debut for the Pittsburgh Pirates tomorrow.
It’s tough to see McLouth go, but McCutchen seems ready for the Majors, and we had extra outfielders. McLouth is the guy with the highest trade value. Hopefully the prospects begin to bloom within the Pittsburgh system.
